     All at once, Will put a hand to my shoulder and hissed,
"Father, listen!"
      From some distance in the jungle came a series
of low, sustained hootings--or perhaps I should
say bellowings--and then again silence.  We waited. 
All remained quiet.  Eventually, urged forward by
our need to escape the hot sun, we crept into the
jungle.
